Location: Corner of Spring Garden and 6th Streets
Overall Rating (1 to 10): 5 What I’d Do To Improve the Place: Let’s see some light over here! And for God’s sake let’s get some good brews on tap and in bottles. I get tired of Miller Genuine Draft and Coors Lights. Besides doesn’t The Bank management know how sexy a woman looks with a Guinness mustache? |
| Update: It seems as though this bar is between owners. Don't know when this site will re-open. If you click for directions link (above), it will display a phone number. It would be wise to give them a
call before you plan on visiting.
You might be looking at the above picture and be saying to yourself, “Hey that building doesn’t look like a bar, it looks like a bank!” Well give yourself a pat on the back because the place used to be a bank. I used to know the bank which called this site “home” at one point, but does it really matter now. Hey what do you want from me? Don’t make me come over there. Regardless, I really love the concept of recycling old beautiful buildings. The exterior of The Bank is very imposing, almost haunting because all of the windows are blackened out. The interior accoutrements combined with the existing bank baseboards, stairs, banisters, and the vault create a cool mysterious vibe. Just head downstairs to the Vault and try to imagine a banker running in there to hide during the stock market crash of 1929. Besides when was the last time you were allowed to walk around your local bank branch with a G&T in one hand and a cigar in the other. On the main banking floor, there are 2 bars and a humongous dance floor. Although I'm not an expert, the DJ kept the dance grooves going and going like the Energizer bunny on a sugar high. Needless to say you will find many an interesting characters strutting their stuff out on the floor. It appeared to me that many artsy, I-only-wear-black types call this place home on Fridays and Saturdays. Hey they's good people, they're just chromatically challenged. If you visit here and wear all black, be careful that you may be difficult to see. I couldn't help but notice that the lights are turned down low, perhaps to promote couples gettin' in the mood, or to hide beer stains on the floor; I don't know which. For the record, I didn't see any beer stains on the floor, but I couldn't see my feet either. If you head into the basement of the bank there is a vault, and 2 other rooms with a bar in each. The basement of The Bank seems to be the spot where the "cool" people hang out, so needless to say there was no room at the inn for The Dog in either of these rooms. I get no respect. No libacious epiphany's here, it is pretty standard stuff on tap. There are only 2 or 3 brews on tap here. It's quite frightening, so be glad that I warned you ahead of time. I just can't help but think that some decent brews on tap would make this establishment complete. |
