What I’d Do To Improve the Place: Get rid of some of the mannequin's and kitschy items that are hanging around the place. How about a revamping one of the downstairs rooms into a cigar bar?  As for upstairs, knock down the wall between the booths and the stage so that clientele can kick back in the booths and enjoy the live entertainment.

The Barn is closed as of Jan 2, 2003! More info here.

I've always said that the great thing about The Barn (aside from being 10 minutes from my house) is that for one cover charge, you can either go upstairs for live music or downstairs for dance music. This is especially handy when you are "partying like it's 1999 (oh wait a second it is 1999)" with a group of people and some like dancing while others like live music.

The Barn is located on Brown Avenue in Bensalem, Bucks County PA. The confusing part about finding The Barn is that it is actually located on the grounds of the Bensalem Country Club. Don't get the wrong idea though, you won't find the "Biff and Muffy" crowd strutting around the nightclub in their oxford shirts and cardigan sweaters. The dress is casual (most people wear jeans). The Barn attracts some of the most popular cover bands that play the "club-circuit" in and around the Philadelphia area. When a popular band plays The Barn, there's never a problem with room in the upstairs "stage" area or finding a parking space for your 1976 gold-colored Chevy Nova. The photo above shows a bit of the parking area but on busy nights the barn staff directs you to additional spaces behind the establishment and up onto part of the golf course (around the 2nd hole / 3rd tee).

In addition to all of the debauchery occurring topside in the upstairs bar, the downstairs portion of the establishment has a DJ spinning records every night that they're open (Thurs - Sat) so you can shake what yo mama gave ya.  Although I'm not a real big fan of the dancing thang, there is a decent size dance floor (we're talking 20 feet by 40 feet) that is propelled by some pretty good DJ's keeping the female clientele jiggling - and after all guys isn't that 90% of the reason we get our sorry asses out on the dance floor.

During the summer months The Barn opens up their courtyard located behind the main building, where live music calms the weary after-work crowd. After the happy hour crowd vacates the courtyard the regular paying customers can drift outside to enjoy their Miller Genuine Draft or Coors Light alfresco just the way they used to do back in the ancient Italy ...or something like that.

I'll give it to ya straight, The Barn doesn't have many quality beers available (let alone on tap) and they charge the Imported price for Killians Irish Amber (It's made by Coors in Colorado for God's sake!). Your run-of-the-mill brews are well represented here Coors, MGD, Heineken, Honey Brown, etc. I can't help but complain about the brews because my tongue's just looking for a little lovin from it's fermented friend.

Incidentally I've played the course up there at Bensalem and it's a tough enough course for a hacker like me. The back nine always "puts the stones" to my score - you're crossing water on every other hole; and chasing your ball up and down hills like a mofo. They usually run specials up there for the golf, so it's best to call ahead for pricing.

PROS:
It's the only game in town if you live in Lower Bucks County and Far Northeast Philly if you're looking for a dance club and live venue all-in-one.

The place seems to outlast any new-comers to the area.

CONS:
Hard to find.

The interior of the place has enough bric-a-brac and kitchy items hanging on the walls to supply a chain of Bennigan's  restaurants.

C'mon people, spend some cash to update the place!
