Phone: (215) 925-2440 Overall Rating (1 to 10): 6 What I’d Do To Improve the Place: Oh, I don't know, maybe "body shot's" on the bar? Whoops, that's what got Live Bait (RIP) closed down, never mind. The bar needs something to liven thinks up, how about live acoustic music on the weekends? - they could open up their huge windows/doors and let the music attract passerby's into the joint. |
| Formerly known as Ralph Jr.'s, this Olde City bar at the corner of 2nd and Chestnut Streets now goes by the name of Rotten Ralph's. The name " Rotten Ralph's" congers up images of bikers, naked beer sliding
and bar-top body shots. Well, I hate to disappoint you but this Rotten Ralph's is a laid back corner bar that is a stark contrast to the upscale Olde City joint that have sprung up in recent years.
The J-shaped bar is located right inside the corner entrance. This large brass & walnut structure seats about 20 patrons. Around the bar are a few tall-boy tables that are more suited for either couples or groups to place their beers while they talk the night away. The taps are graced with such pours as Stella Artois, Bass, Guinness, & Miller Lite, Sure they've got a CD juke box, but it's loaded with such diverse silicon as ABBA and Sinatra. When all is said and done, the bar is definitely the place to be in Ralph's. Pick a good seat at the bar (towards the back wall) so you can take advantage of the large windows that line the perimeter of Rotten Ralph's. Even-though the patrons are mostly locals (residents/employees) or out-of-towners, remember that you are in Olde City. The people on the street are sometimes more entertaining than what is being shown on Ralph's TV's. Two doors down from Ralph's is the khYber, a haven for Indie folk forking over their ducats to see new and semi-famous rock acts. Then there are the sexy honeybabies and guys bringing their "A-Game" to local dance joints like Envy and Butter. Then there is the martini drinking, swanky crowd headed to places like the Continental, Tangerine and the Paradigm. At 2nd and Chestnut Streets, Ralph's is in the middle of it all and you have a front row seat. But after a while, the girl/boy/freak watching gets a bit tiresome and you eventually resign yourself to rejoin the rest of the humans. Well, like we said, you are in the heart of Olde City, so get to work.
