What I’d Do To Improve the Place:

Nothing comes to mind. Nice place.

Check Out Rembrandt's Online Here!

Rembrandt's is located in the Fairmount section of Philly, a few blocks north of the Art Museum at 23rd and Aspen Streets. For seventy-five years the site has served the city as a drinking establishment in one way or another.

Rembrandt's is modeled after the "brown bars of Amsterdam" as their web site mentions. A Brown Bar means that the place is "small, dark and cozy." The interior lighting fixtures, the Rembrandt prints, and the full sized mannequin (in the likeness of Rembrandt himself) are all from Amsterdam.

This is a nice neighborhood bar that doesn't pick favorites when it comes to entertaining young and old pubcrawlers alike. During the visit,  the bar and dining area was filled with 20, 30, 40 and 50 somethings enjoying the brews and having a good time. The brews are pretty standard stuff: Guinness, Bass, etc.; about 8 rotating taps total.

The establishment is divided in two:  the dining room on one side of the first floor and the bar on the other. The food at Rembrandt's has been featured on local television stations (Local FOX Affiliate: Janet Zapalla "Fox is Cooking" & Local CBS Affiliate: Sianni Lee "Eye on Your Money.") The dinner menu at Rembrandt's ranges from expensive entree's like Filet Mignon ($20.95) and their famous Duck Strudel ($17.95) to more common entree's like Chicken Stir Fry and Spaghetti. A lunch menu is also available with most selections below $10.00 a plate.

For entertainment, Rembrandt's has a variety of options. On Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30PM on they present Tarot by John, where he'll read your future in the cards for $20. On Thursday evenings, it's The Living Jazz Workshop, where local Jazz musicians show off their chops from 7PM on and the best part about it is that there is no cover charge. On Sundays from 11:30AM - 2:30PM, it's Brunch with Liz and Vicky. This duo entertains the brunching crowd by playing piano and viola.

Another nice attribute of Rembrandt's is it's proximity to a number of other bar's in the Fairmount area. The Bishop's Collar, London, Bridgid's, and Jacks Firehouse are all within 2 blocks. In Feb '00,  a nice big parking lot became operational across the street. It has a 1200 car capacity, and it only costs $5 per evening - pretty good, eh? This price is a little more reasonable than the lots you'll find in Olde City and Manayunk.

PROS:
Does a great bar achieving the "brown bar" look.

Nice crowd.

A lot of entertainment options. Just about everyday of the week has something going on.

CONS:
If you don't make it into the parking lot across the street, you're stuck scouring the streets for a spot.

Bar manager flip-flopped on the cigar issue. First Yes, then No.
