Pubscape is your interface to the Philadelphia bar scene. Phillytown.com has compiled a database of reviews that provide:

• A review - done by your Phillytown.com team
• A Rating - The beer scale
• Pro's and con's of the bar
• What we would like to see changed
• Address
• Directions

to many of the bar, pubs, night clubs, restaurants, etc. In the Delaware Valley.

We started off small, but the amount of reviews that we have completed is unmanageable without a database. Pubscape is your interface to that database. Features of Pubscape are:

• Search all establishments by their location in the city
• Search all establishments by their type: Bar, Dance Club, Live Music, etc.
• Search all establishments by the age of most of their clientelle
• Generate a random pub crawl (based on the search parameters above)
• Write your own reviews of the establishments
• Read other visitor reviews of the establishment (a.k.a., don't just that Phillytown's word for it)

 

Search

On the main Pubscape page the "Find a bar" block provides the method for searching our database.

First select a location. The location is set up hierarchal so that when you do select a location, all locations underneath it are included in the search.

Second, select all the types of establishments that you want to include in your search. A description of the types are:

• Bar - A generic bar that serves alcoholic beverages.
• Brew Pub - A bar that servers alcoholic beverages brewed on the premisis.
• Dance Club - A location where the primary entertainment is dancing.
• Restaurant - A location where the primary business is dining.
• Sports Bar - A location specifically designed to watch sports.
• Cigar Friendly - A location that allows cigar smoking.
• Dancing - A location where people dance but dancing is not the primary source of entertainment.
• Food - A location that serves food, but the food is not the location's primary source of business.
• Live Music - A location where live bands play.
• Pub (Irish, English, Colonial) - A bar that tries to resemble an European (Irish or English) or old Colonial pub.
• Swanky - A location where the establishment is upscale and proper dress should be worn.

Third, age. Phillytown.com established an age range where 80% of the people fall within that range. If you are worried about the normal patron age of an establishment, enter your age and if it falls within the range of the establishment, the bar will be returned in in your query. Leave this field blank if you do not care about age.

Fourth is the random pub crawl. This feature should be used if you have no idea where to go and you want fate to take it's course. Just enter the amount of establishments that you want to hit and random bars are returned. All the other search parameters may be used to filter your crawl. If you do not want a random pub crawl, leave this field blank.
