What I’d Do To Improve the Place:

Add live music to the mix. There is plenty of room on the second floor for a mini stage.

The bathrooms on the first floor are incredibly tiny. If you're a woman, you'll have to be a gymnast to negotiate the facility. They make me glad to be a man.

Visit O'Neal's on the Web

O'Neal's is located on 3rd, just off of South Street. It is the sort of place that is nice to visit, but you'll probably move on to somewhere else after about an hour.

You enter through the door above. A long bar stretches half the distance of the room. The usual Irish suspects are represented on tap.  A couple of TV's and a CD Juke Box provide the entertainment. About 20 patrons can belly up to the bar.

Across from the first floor bar is a steel staircase which leads to an upstairs bar. At the head of the stairs, against the back wall of the second floor is a fake store front built into the wall. I didn't really understand the significance of this decoration, other than it might make for a minute conversation piece. The bar on this floor is as equally well taken care as it's downstairs counterpart. Aside from the 10 spots at this bar, you can park your posse at one of the 10 or so tables. This second floor would be a great place to showcase some live music. Using the faux facade as a back drop, a small stage could be constructed and the crowds would pile in.

The clientele consists of 25  to 35 year olds. On both occasions that I have visited O'Neal's, the first floor was somewhat crowded, while the second floor was virtually empty. O'Neal's is a nice establishment, but by virtue of being located in the South Street area, the entertainment bar is raised and if you don't offer anything special, what separates you from the competition?

(This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the first floor bathrooms.) It's quite a shock to see the 2 unisex bathrooms on the first floor. There is barely enough room to fit the toilet and sink. If you're claustrophobic, you'd better "Hold it" until the next pub.

And speaking of the next pub...O'Neal's South Street pub neighbors are The Dicken's Inn, Artful Dodger and Who's on Third. In the event that you grow tired of the tele and the CD Juke Box, you might want to move on to one of these other fine establishments. O'Neal's fit's the bill for an Irish pub to a "T," and if you are in the mood for throwing a few back in a somewhat quiet atmosphere, look no further.

PROS:
It's a straight- forward Irish themed pub.

Music not too loud, bar not too crowded.

Great location. Nice crowd.

CONS:
Parking in the South Street area can be difficult.

Bathrooms on the first floor are tiny.

What to do with the 2nd Floor???
