Phone: (610) 941-0600 Overall Rating (1 to 10): 8 What I’d Do To Improve the Place: Knock down the wall between the billiard room and the bar to open up the place. Since live entertainment performs 2 feet in front of the bar, it's a real chore to belly up to the bar. Don't get me wrong, I love the live entertainment, but it's damn difficult to see the musicians do their thing when they're situated in one corner of the bar. |
| The first time I went to the General Lafayette Inn was back in late 1997. At that time, the best part about the place was that it had these beautiful copper beer “vats” visible behind glass for all to see from both
inside and outside the establishment. If you look closely at the picture above you can see their polished copper finish through the first floor windows.
But since that time, The General Lafayette has brought a little entertainment to the table in the form of musicians performing on weekends and most nights during the week. It's a very eclectic mix of music, from blues to hippie to country-rock to new age acoustic music from some of the best local talent around. It's always pot-luck when you walk in the door: you never really know what sort of act will be performing, unless you call ahead or get one of their flyers. Most of the live acts perform original music, and they always seem to be the perfect accompaniment to a pint of one of their home brews. The only difficulty with the live music is that there really isn't Typically the Lafayette keeps 8 different types of beers on tap ranging from ales, to bitters, to lagers, to stouts (the dark stuff that looks like you could float a quarter on the head) and even an occasional fruit based beer. If you look at the picture of the General Lafayette below, the other side of the corner shown here hides the game room area that contains 2 pool tables and a dart board. Even-though the pool tables are the standard coin-op 6 foot long tables, the Lafayette remains one of the rare places in the 'burbs where you can throw a game of "cricket " or "501 Double- In, Double- Out" (ie games in darts for those of you who are considered "cork-challenged"). All in all the General Lafayette is a great place to experience some decent brews, good music and good times whenever you're in the Lafayette Hills area, and even when you're not in the neighborhood.
