What I’d Do To Improve the Place:

Nice pub, parking right behind the building. I like the place as is. It is within a block away from other quaint pubs like Moriarties and Doc Watsons.

Visit Fergie's on the Web

Fergies is a nice quaint pub located down the street from Jefferson Hospital on Sansom Street in Center City. Upon entering Fergie's there is a bar directly to the left, in front of you a stairway leading up to a second floor, and a dining area  located towards the back of the room.

During my visit to Fergies, I grabbed some dinner and threw back a couple of Guinness. The menu is certainly reasonably priced with most of the items below $10. If you order food, be sure to order their "award-winning" pub fries. The fries were pretty good, but I don't know who is the fry authority and is handing out this honor. The fare is a combination of American and English cuisines.

The clientele who were at  Fergies during my visit were comprised 20 somethings who I wagered were mostly comprised of med students from Jefferson Hospital. A nice bunch of future upstanding professionals, you're not likely to see the baggy-pants crowd or skin tight hot pants on the honey babies. Jeans and a nice shirt will get you by at this establishment.

I was surprised to see a juke box next to the staircase. Such a kitchy/retro item seems sort of out of place in an Celtic themed bar. Although nothing keeps the clientele involved in the music of the pub like a juke box. I recall artists like Dave Mathews, Van Morrison and Best of the 80's as part of some of musical selections.

As for the brews available, Fergies has 30 different bottled brews, including such rarities as: John Courage, Anchor Steam Ale, Lindeman's Frambois, and Rogue Dead Guy Ale. On tap you'll find some of my favorite brews like: Guinness, Cider Jack Hard Cider, Harp, and Paulaner Hefe - Weizen.

Upstairs is filled with tables and chairs. On the weekend nights, you're likely to find an acoustic trio performing under the dim lights.  Be sure to fill up your glass before venturing upstairs, otherwise it might be a long wait for the waitress to make her rounds up here. It appeared as though the 2 waitresses on staff were running up and down the staircase quite a bit to keep the glasses full on two levels.

Being a block away from Doc Watsons and Moriarty's in one direction and McGillin's Old Ale House in the other, makes this place a definite stop when planning your next pub crawl through Center City.

PROS:
Great place to bring a date.

There is a nice mellow crowd of 20somethings there to "chill out" with and have a cup of coffee or throw back some brews.

And how about that brick and mortar store front, very inviting.

CONS:
I would be hard pressed to find fault with much at this fine eating and drinking establishment.
