What I’d Do To Improve the Place:

Add more Irish Beers on tap.

From the outside, it may appear as though TA Flannery's is closed. Even-though the curtains are drawn tight and the front door appears dark, this fine Irish establishment is open for business.

You enter by a corner entrance, pass through a small vestibule and into the main bar area.  Off to your right is a very ornate solid wooden bar. What makes the bar unique is what's behind the bar. There are four wooden arches that jut out of the wall with 4 mirrors as a backdrop. You'd really have to see this to fully appreciate the effect that it brings to the bar and the room.

There are four beers on tap: Guinness, Yuengling Lager, Coors Light and Bud. For an Irish pub to have only one Irish brew on tap is almost criminal. How about throwing some Caffrey's and Harp up on the ol' taps? With a name like "Flannery's" you would think the bar's Irish pedigree would demand more Irish brews on the ol' tap. Boo!

The walls of Flannery's are decorated mostly by old pictures and signs from a time long since gone by. Mounted over the CD Jukebox is a photo of the Marx Brothers posing with Lou Gehrig. There is also an interesting sign posted above the bar that reads: "Help Wanted: Irish Need Not Apply." Obviously this sign no longer applies since the bar-keep looked more Irish than that Lucky Charms Leprechaun.

This is not the sort of place that gets too loud or too rowdy which explains why there is such a diversity of age groups here.  The crowd is a nice mix of mid-20's to 40 year olds. To entertain the masses, there are 2 TV's and a CD Jukebox neither of which get too loud, so conversation is still possible. The food offered here is your typical bar food: wings, chicken fingers, roast beef sandwiches, fries and the such.

TA Flannery's is nicely situated between a few other bars in the area. If you head a block North to Market Street, Cutters is 1/2 block east. If you head south down 21st Street one block, you encounter JJ's Grotto. Still heading south on 21st and making a left onto Walnut, you'll be within a half block of Bards and the Irish Pub. With these bars/pubs as neighbor's, TA Flannery's is a great place to start or finish an evening's pub crawl.

PROS:
Love the backdrop behind the bar.

Friendly pub atmosphere.

Parking across the street (when city lot is open)

CONS:
Parking can be a bitch - your best bet is to park on Market Street and "hoof it" over.

Dark exterior makes it hard to tell if the place is open.
