Location: Olde City, Phila, PA
Phone: (215) 238-1222 Overall Rating (1 to 10): 7 What I’d Do To Improve the Place: Make the menu available all the time. We recently visited there on a Sunday afternoon looking for a place to have lunch. The bartender informed us that all they were serving was "finger food" - no sandwiches.

| Located along the Olde City strip, aka 2nd Street, Brownies Pub solidly represents a good old fashioned Irish Pub. Sure you've have the frou frou Plough and the Stars across the street, but
there you've got to bring your A-game and worry about getting Shaqued by the gaggle of honeybabies "selling it" by the fireplace.
Brownies is the sort of place that you can come as you are and throw a few Irish brews back. On the weekend nights, you're most likely to encounter a crowd that ranges from mid-twenty to mid-thirty year- olds. If you visit any other time, you're likely to see an older crowd mixed in too. On all of the times that I have visited, there's never been a cover charge. There are 2 floors to Brownies Pub. The first floor contains a decent size bar on the left that can seat about 20 people. Opposite the bar are tables and chairs, single file, which hug the right-hand wall. You'll have to head upstairs to the bathroom. While you're up there you can check out the pool table to see if it's free. The second floor doesn't have much else to offer aside from the bathrooms and billiards - no bar up here. Being a fine Irish Pub, the draft beers don't disappoint. The taps feature: Yards Old Ale, Guinness, Woodchuck Cider, Harp, Victory Hops, Caffrey's, and Yuengling Lager. Rarely do local pubs serve up the trinity of Irish beers: Guinness, Harp and Caffrey's. Caffrey's always seems to get the short end of the "tap" - so to speak. My guess is that the average Joe walking into a bar doesn't realize that Caffrey's is one of the few brews that is actually imported from Ireland. Sure there's the "poser" Irish beers like Killians (made by Coors in Colorado, USA), O'Doul's (Missouri, USA) and McSorely's (New York, USA) but they ain't from the Emerald Isle. The walls of Brownies Pub are decorated with pictures of old Philly baseball teams. Many, many Irish flags are mounted to the walls, emphasizing their Irish heritage. Brownies runs a happy hour Monday through Friday from 5-7 that offers free chicken wings with a beverage purchase. Being centrally located in the Olde City section of Philly, there are many other bars within a block of Brownies Pub, so once you've had your fill of "Irish" you've got choices.
